Stena Line opens new daily route between Sweden and Finland

Swedish shipping company Stena Line today announces the opening of the new Nynäshamn-Hanko route, expanding its route network to the Finnish market. The new route underlines Stena Line’s ambition of an even stronger presence in the Baltic Sea region. From February 2022, the route will initially be served by one ferry, from two ferries scheduled to operate to daily departures from May 2022. The port of departure in Nynäshamn is Stockholm Norvik.

“With our new daily route between Hanko and Nynäshamn, we are expanding our route network and strengthening our position in the Baltic Sea region. We grow together with our customers and invest in our service to meet the increasing demand of our freight customers to smooth transports in the Baltic Sea region and beyond. By connecting to Finland, we are improving and expanding our efficient and comprehensive ferry network in Northern Europe,” says Niclas Mårtensson, CEO Stena Line.

From 01 February 2022, the Urd ferry will run between Hanko and Nynäshamn/Stockholm Norvik three times per week and direction. From 01 May 2022, the Stena Gothica will additionally operate on to route, and the service will then operate daily from both ports. This ensures smooth operations when loading and unloading ships during the all-day port berthing period.

The RoPax ferries, Urd and Stena Gothica, which carry mostly cargo and a maximum of 186 passengers, each have a capacity of 1,600 lane meters. They represent Stena Line’s next investment step in the Baltic Sea region, which includes the commissioning of the two newly built E-Flexers to the Nynäshamn-Ventspils route, as well as the capacity expansion on to Karlskrona-Gdynia route with the recently extended ferries Stena Scandica and Stena Baltica.

“It is a great pleasure to welcome Stena Line to Hanko. As a leading port for efficient transport routes and centrally located in Southern Finland, we share with Stena Line the goal of expanding sustainable transport in the Baltic Sea. Hanko is an important hub for trade and industrial products, the automotive industry and the export of forest products. The new connection also expands our network to our target markets in Sweden,” says Anders Ahlvik, Managing Director Port of Hanko.

“We are looking forward to the new route between Hanko in Finland and Nynäshamn. We have already been working successfully with Stena Line for years and we are very happy about the next step and Stena Line’s long-term commitment to our new port Stockholm Norvik,” says Fredrik Lindstål, (Centerpartiet), Chairman of the Board Stockholms Hamnar.
