In the north of the island of Fehmarn lies Puttgarden. The place is known for its busy ferry port. There, the floating “Bordershop” offers four floors of pure shopping pleasure. The Grüner Brink nature reserve provides a protected habitat for rare water birds. A dike hike leads to the Niobe Monument. It commemorates the sailing ship of the same name that capsized here in 1932 before the eyes of a school class and sank within a very short time.
