In the north of the island of Fehmarn lies Puttgarden. The place is known for its busy ferry port. There, the floating “Bordershop” offers four floors of pure shopping pleasure. The Grüner Brink nature reserve provides a protected habitat for rare water birds. A dike hike leads to the Niobe Monument. It commemorates the sailing ship of the same name that capsized here in 1932 before the eyes of a school class and sank within a very short time.

  • Follow the signs to the ferry port of Puttgarden, which is located in the north of the island.

Arrival by car via highways and roads

  • From Hamburg: Take the A1 northbound (Lübeck, Fehmarn) until the end of the highway. This leads directly to the B207, which takes you straight to the ferry port of Puttgarden.
  • From Berlin: Take the A24 towards Hamburg, change to the A1 towards Puttgarden and then follow the above route via the A1 and B207.
