Welcome to Sicily! The image of the city and life there has always been shaped by the all towering volcano Etna. The lively centre of Catania is located at the Piazza del Duomo. There you can visit the cathedral and the landmark of the city – the Elephant Fountain. The Castello Ursino dates back to the 13th century. An eruption of Mount Etna in 1669 destroyed the city, but did not harm the imposing building. The lava simply flowed past the strong walls. The history of the Teatro Romano & Odeon goes back to antiquity. It is hard to believe that after passing through the inconspicuous entrance, the visitor suddenly finds himself in an ancient amphitheatre of impressive dimensions. What an impressive experience!
