Malaga’s cityscape is characterized by beautiful sandy beaches and a modern skyline with many high-rise buildings. The city is dominated by two imposing fortifications. While the visitor can explore the ruins of a mighty castle complex in the Castillo de Gibralfaro, the fortress and palace complex Alcazaba surprises with Moorish architecture, beautiful courtyards, fountains and gardens. Malaga’s cathedral has a very special name. The locals have nicknamed her La Manquita, which means “the one-armed one”. The reason for this is the fact that their second tower was never completed. One of the most important inhabitants of Malaga was probably Pablo Picasso, the house where he was born is now a museum.
