The Heart of the Baltic: Riga Riga fascinates! The capital of Latvia combines architectural beauty and culture. Famous wooden buildings, art nouveau architecture and a medieval old town create a very special atmosphere here. Together with the market square, the cathedral and the town hall, Riga’s Old Town made it onto the UNESCO World Heritage List as early as 1997. It is hard to believe that Riga also has a castle with a powder tower dating back to 1650. And where, according to historians, should the very first decorated Christmas tree have stood? Well, in Riga.
