The Strait of Dover connects the North Sea with the Atlantic Ocean, separating mainland Europe from Great Britain. Tidal changes provide strong currents here. Just 33 kilometres wide is the narrowest part of the English Channel, at the end of which the white cliffs of Dover welcome travellers from France.

Calais is located on the northern French coast. On a clear day you can already see the chalk cliffs of Dover from here. With a bright blue sky, it’s quite a wonderful sight. Before departure, Calais invites you to take an extensive stroll through the city. Particularly worth seeing is the old town with its historic town hall, beautiful facades and traditional gable-roofed houses. The citadel inspires with thick fortress walls and moats. From the walk-in lighthouse you have a magnificent panoramic view of the city, the beach and the English Channel.
