TOP excursion destinations in Albania
The centre of Albania’s capital Tirana can be found around Skanderbeg Square. An equestrian monument here commemorates the Albanian national hero. The square is framed by the Palace of Culture, Et’hem Bey Mosque, National Museum and Clock Tower. Other highlights of the city are the Pyramid, the Great Mosque, the Bazaar and the Great Park.
The town of Gjirokaster is picturesquely surrounded by 1,800 metre high mountains. Steep are the paths up to the old town with its imposing fortress, traditional stone houses, narrow alleys and countless stairs – eponym for the city of a thousand steps…
Berat is considered the city of a thousand windows. It is one of the oldest cities in the country and offers visitors a beautiful sight with its small Ottoman houses. The castle quarter from the 13th century is also worth seeing.
A visit to the ancient ruined city of Butrint promises to be a cultural highlight. Amidst old trees you can visit a theatre, various temples, an aqueduct and the forum. In addition, there is an imposing Venetian castle. From here you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Corfu Strait.
In the south of Albania, dreamlike beaches and crystal clear water await you in the seaside resort of Ksamil. Off the coast are three picturesque islands that you can reach by swimming or by boat. In the evening, the tavernas tempt you with fresh seafood and magnificent views.
North of the port city of Durres, visitors will find the monastery of St. Anthony, the “Bunker Beach”, an old castle ruin and fantastic views over the Mediterranean Sea at Cape Rodonit.
The Blue Eye of Albania Syri i Kaltër refers to the water-rich spring of a mountain lake from which the water flows ice-cold and crystal clear. Especially beautiful to look at is the blaze of colour in blue, green and turquoise. No one knows how far down the well goes.

Alternative travel options
Albania is easily accessible by car, motorhome or long-distance coach via the Balkan route. Travelling by train is difficult due to the lack of cross-border train services. There are regular flights from Germany all year round.
