TOP excursion destinations at Cyprus
Cyprus’ capital Nicosia is surrounded by a well-preserved city wall and is still divided into north and south. In the Greek part the cathedral and the archbishop’s palace are worth seeing. You can reach the Turkish part via a border crossing at the pedestrian zone Ledrastraße. An aqueduct, a caravanserai and several mosques await you here.
The port city of Paphos delights all those who are interested in cultural history. Royal tombs, ruined grounds and a medieval fort invite you on a journey into the past. The floor mosaics of the Roman villas in the Archaeological Park are particularly fascinating. They are of unique beauty!
The Kolossi castle dates back to 1454. The residential tower and parts of the wall have been preserved. The cistern, the kitchen and the representation rooms can be visited over several floors. From the roof there is a magnificent panoramic view.
The remains of the ancient city of Salamis bear witness to the power and wealth of its builders. At one time, up to 100,000 people lived here. Worth seeing are the grammar school, the theatre and the royal tombs. The ancient site of Kourion also has a theatre and buildings with well-preserved floor mosaics.
The rock of Aphrodite offers a beautiful backdrop. Greek mythology says that at this place the goddess of beauty was born from foam.
In the middle of the Tróodos Mountains, visitors will find the Ioannis Lampadistis Monastery. It is a World Heritage Site and houses three churches from different eras under one roof. This offers the unique opportunity to admire the most magnificent frescoes from various centuries in just one place.
The Tróodos Mountains occupy a good third of the island’s total area. The highest elevation is the Olympos with 1.952 meters. Various hiking and biking trails lead through forests and offer pleasant temperatures in summer. By the way, in winter there is skiing here.
Entry requirements
Entry to Cyprus is possible for German citizens with the following documents: identity card, passport, children’s passport. All documents must be valid at the time of entry. A visa is not required for entry into Cyprus.
