Travel guide France

Holiday in France

France welcomes its guests with imposing architecture, style, elegance and excellent cuisine. Together with 4,800 kilometres of coastline and characteristic landscapes, you can look forward to eventful holidays.

TOP excursion destinations in France

France’s capital Paris impresses not only with the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe, Champs-Élysées and Montmartre. The many museums, flea markets and brasseries also make a stroll through Paris an unforgettable experience.

Hardly any palace is more famous than that of Versailles. Louis XIV – the Sun King – had it built in the Baroque style. The French kings lived here until the outbreak of the French Revolution. The mirrored gallery, the royal bedroom and the gardens are particularly magnificent to behold.

The monastery of Mont Saint Michel was built from the 8th century onwards and offers a truly impressive setting. Behind its mighty walls, the Grand Rue, medieval facades and the abbey with its wonderful cloister dating from 1228 await you.

The castles of the Loire invite culture enthusiasts into a fairytale world. More than 400 small and large castles accompany the river on its way to the Atlantic. Among the most popular are Chambord, Chaumont, Chenonceau and Villandry.

The city of Carcasonne is of unique beauty. Already on the approach it impresses with its medieval battlements, towers and walls. Within the double ring of walls, the castle, small alleys, restaurants, cafés and arts and crafts await you.

The unique paintings in the Lascaux cave were created 17,000 years before our era. They show bison, aurochs, deer and horses. Today, the original cave is closed to the public, but its replica is no less interesting.

With the Pont du Gard, the Romans left a fascinating insight into their architecture to posterity. The aqueduct was part of a 50-kilometre-long water system that supplied the city of Nimes with drinking water.

The Pilat dune is an impressive natural spectacle. The highest shifting sand dune in Europe impresses with a length of three kilometres, a width of 500 metres and a height of 110 metres. Each year it migrates up to five meters, burying a pine forest in its path.

Little known is the one kilometre long cave network of the Gouffre de Padirac. A staircase with 455 steps leads 75 meters deep down into the “maw”. A fascinating play of colours and an unforgettable boat trip on an underground river await you there. What a spectacle of nature!
