Travel guide Thailand

Holiday in Thailand

Magnificent temples, lively cities and real culinary delights await you in Thailand. The north of the country is characterised by mountains, the south by a paradisiacal island world. Tropical temperatures, exoticism and hospitality ensure carefree holidays in the Land of Smiles.

TOP excursion destinations in Thailand

The metropolis Bangkok inspires people from all over the world with its royal palace, old town and fascinating temples. One of the most beautiful is Wat Arun, one of the most famous Wat Pho – its reclining Buddha is 46 meters long and completely gilded. If you want to get to know Bangkok’s lively side, the Chatuchak Market, Chinatown or the banks of the Chao Phraya – the River of Kings – are the right places to be.

In the mountainous north of Thailand lies the city of Chiang Mai. Its landmark, the temple Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, was already founded in 1371. A visit to the night market is also not to be missed. Souvenirs, handicrafts and inexpensive clothing invite you to stroll and browse.

The city of Chiang Rai offers a temple all in white with its Wat Rong Khun. Its walls are decorated with mirror elements to reflect the sunlight. Over a small bridge and past two grim looking guardian figures you reach the temple interior.

With Ayutthaya you will visit a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The former capital of the Kingdom of Siam was destroyed in 1767. Nevertheless, the huge complex with its imposing temple ruins has lost none of its fascination to this day.

If you visit the Damnoen Saduak Floting Market, a whole new world opens up to you. Here the traders offer their goods for sale on hundreds of small boats. Whether exotic fruits, freshly caught fish or traditional sweets – the floating market is considered a real highlight.

The island of Phuket offers its guests a great variety. The most prominent point of the island is the 45 meter high Big Buddha made of white marble. While the old town of Phuket Town invites you to a leisurely stroll, the notorious boulevard Bangla Road awaits you in Patong.

The best way to experience the beauty of Phang Nga National Park is from a boat. Numerous small rock islands rise out of the crystal clear water here, including Khao Phing-Kan, the leaning rock, and Khao Ta-Pu, the rock needle.

Entry requirements

German citizens can enter Thailand with a passport and children’s passport. An identity card alone is not sufficient. All documents must be valid for at least six months upon entry. Tourists do not need a visa, which would have to be obtained before the start of the trip.

Alternative travel options

Flights to Thailand from Germany are offered in large numbers. The flight time Frankfurt – Bangkok is about ten hours. From here there are connections to the north and to the islands in the south.
