Elbferry GmbH took over the ferry service between Brunsbüttel and Cuxhaven on 1 March 2021. The company relies on modern concepts without marine diesel and heavy oil. This is why the Greenferry double-ended ferry, which runs on liquefied natural gas, is used on the route. Two partners support the still young company on its way to new, environmentally friendly and innovative propulsion systems: the manager of the traditional shipping company Strahlmann as well as MTB new energy from Brunsbüttel.

Elbferry shipping company filed for insolvency in November 2021 and stopped ferry service in December 2021.
